In Spring 2025, Cal Poly Humboldt hosted the 39th CSU Research
Competition. Jason Hansen, MPPA graduate student, received
2nd place for his research “Mitigating the Pandemic Learning
Loss: Differential Effects of California’s K-12 Weighted Formula
Aid on Student Performance. Jason was mentored by Dr. Robert
Wassmer (PPA) and graduated in Spring 2025 with a 4.0 GPA and
the honor of Graduation with Distinction.

In addition to receiving 2nd place in the Student Research
and Creative Activities Symposium, MPPA student Shoshana
Levy was able to present her research at the 50th Annual
Research Symposium hosted by the Social Science Research
and Instructional Council (SSRIC) at CSU Dominguez Hills. There
Shoshana received the SSRIC award for “Best Use of Quantitative
Data”. Shoshana was mentored by Dr. Robert Wassmer (PPA).

In addition to receiving 1st place in the Student Research and
Creative Activities Symposium, NUFD graduate student Macey
Briones was able to present her research at the California
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Conference
(CANDAC), a statewide event for nutrition students and
professionals. Macey was mentored by Dr. Mical Shilts.
Charles Potts II, NUFD undergraduate student, presented his
McNair Scholar research on food assistance stigma among
Black College students at a national conference in Atlanta,
GA and took 2nd place in his category. He also presented his
work, Exploring SNAP Stigmas Among Black College Students and
Identifying Ethical Approaches to Reducing Them and is currently
applying to MSW programs nationwide.
